Good morning : ) One year now since publishing my haiku collection with 1100 haiku & tanka. Drinking ‘Nepal White’ from the oldest teashop in Copenhagen, A.C. Perchs. Got a undescribable sweet dew roundness, grapes, and licorice. I didn’t follow their recommandation for 10 minutes brewing time, though 😅🙈 More like 20sec, plus 5 sec in the following brews. – What are you drinking?

Same tea, but today with japanese equipment, and 1. time on my low table, which I finally set up for tea drinking. I also use it for drawing though, so that’s why it is not overfilled. I enjoy using the testubin, a cast iron teapot, the gaiwan, a wooden plate from the old Jugoslavia, a letter opener I have from my mother, and a wonderful red teacup…

And the teacup: drinking from a quite big sencha cup, dark red-brown pottery by Gregory Miller, who spent many years in Japan learning saltglazing a.o. I visited him and his two homemade kilns in Horne, northern Judland, quite a few years back now, after he gad had an exhibition at the japanese ambassys cukture center. The whole thing on a dark blue cloth from Japan.

The whole Corona lockdown has been 100% sun – as if the universe reliefed thanks us, humanity, for giving it a break. Less transport, less planes, less of everything unneccessary…

So I had tea out on the balcony again today: a 100 gr cake of Shou Pu erh, from Winhonco, France. The reason is, that I yesterday watched Tea Masters class / live videa about Shou (cooked) Pu erh tea. He is so generous in this time to make a tea class every morning! In this case, he was brewing both 1. and 2. brew for two minutes each, quite long. And regarding the amount of tea, after brewing, he had the gaiwan filled one third. No washing “when the tea is clean”, I don’t know about mine : )  Anyway, trying the same procedure today.

20200421_09232020200421_092653Mine was thick and very not-transparent as a soup, strong but actually round and mellow in taste despite the long brewing time, as Stepane Erlér also described. Haiku of some kind:

Balcony is all mine – / nobody sees me nearly naked / this strange spring.

I am drinking from three different cups: a small blue-white, about 10 ml, as I would sharing the tea with others…

Et japansk haiku-digt kan minde om en japansk tusch-tegning: FĂ„ enkelte streger, fĂ„ enkelte ord. At udtrykke sĂ„ meget som muligt med sĂ„ fĂ„ ord som muligt. At skrive ud fra tomheden, i de Ăžjeblikke hvor et smukt syn rammer Ă©n, tiden stĂ„r stille, alt falder sammen i Ă©t, og man gĂ„r forfrisket videre med et smil pĂ„ lĂŠben. At fastholde disse Ăžjeblikke – dĂ©t, der sker lige nu og her. Oplevelsen gives i digtet videre sĂ„ direkte som muligt. Spontant, pĂ„ en jeg-lĂžs mĂ„de – uden fĂžlelser eller sentimantalitet.Denne oplevelse af virkelighed er beskrevet i zen-litteraturen og gĂ„r igen i alle zen-inspirerede kunstarter i Japan, men kan opleves af enhver, ethvert sted, i hvert Ăžjeblik…

Den moderne digter Yone Noguchi beskriver haiku sĂ„dan: ”Som ĂŠdelstene, hvor japanske digtere evner at udtrykke deres forstĂ„else af naturen, eller bedre: at synge deres lĂŠngsel og beundring for moder natur.”

Historie
Allerede i det syvende Ärhundrede skrev man i Japan meget minimalistiske digte. F.eks. bestod en sÄkaldt waka, stamformen for den senere haiku, af kun 5 linier. Her linje indeholdt et ganske bestemt antal stavelser: 5, 7, 5, 7 og igen 7 stavelser. NÄr en gruppe mennesker skiftedes til at skrive disse waka, opstod der en sÄkaldt renga, et kÊdedigt.

Fra omkring 1600-tallet prÞvede man at nÞjes med de allerfÞrste 3 linjer af dette kÊdedigt, som senere blev kaldt haiku. Et haiku er altsÄ et digt bestÄende af kun 3 linjer, og hver linje indeholder et fast antal stavelser: 5 stavelser i den fÞrste linje, 7 i den 2. linje, og igen 5 i den sidste linje.

De stĂžrste haiku-digtere i Japan var vandringsmanden Basho (1644-1694), maleren Buson (1715-1783), den fattige Issa (1763-1827) og den moderne Shiki (1867-1902).

Indefor haikuens faste rammer bruges gerne et eller to billeder, der stÄr hver for sig, men alligevel har en forbindelse:

Den 1. linje kan udtrykke noget bestandigt, evigt, som ”buddha-naturen”. Det vil sige dĂ©t i os, der er uforanderligt, stille, uberĂžrt af ydre forhold. Den 2. linje kan indeholde noget mere konkret, individuelt, foranderligt. Og i den 3. linje kan der ske noget uventet, en lyd, en opvĂ„gnen:

en frĂž hopper i
PLASK!

Et haiku skal helst indeholde et Ă„rstidsord (kigo), der indikerer, hvilken Ă„rstid vi befinder os i:

BlommetrÊ i mÄnelys
faldende sne
hvide blomsters genkomst

Men ellers er der indholdsmĂŠssigt ingen begrĂŠnsninger for, hvad en haiku mĂ„ indeholde. Den kan udtrykke alt – men pĂ„ en mĂ„de, der giver lĂŠseren et nyt syn pĂ„ en hverdagsagtig oplevelse:

Moderne haiku
I midten af 1800-tallet Ă„bnede Japan sig for vesten, og haiku-traditionen spredte sig til forfattere i hele verden:
